Allowed expressions in schedule operations
Some schedule-operation parameters accept an expression rather than a fixed value. For example, If..Else, While.., and Conditional Operation use a condition that returns true or false. Set Parameter accepts an expression for its value.
Only equality (==, !=), comparison (>, <, >=, <=), and numeric
arithmetic are supported in schedule-operation expressions. An expression field
is not a general-purpose programming language.
Supported operators
Section titled “Supported operators”| Expression type | Supported operators | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Equality | == (equal), != (not equal) | 3 == 3 returns true; 3 != 3 returns false. |
| Comparison | > (greater than), < (less than), >= (greater than or equal), <= (less than or equal) | 5 >= 3 returns true. |
| Numeric arithmetic | + (add), - (subtract), * (multiply), / (divide), % (remainder) | 2 + 3 returns 5; 7 % 3 returns 1. |
Choosing an expression
Section titled “Choosing an expression”Use an expression whose result matches the parameter. A condition needs a
true/false result, while a loop count needs a whole number. Arithmetic operands
must be numeric; + does not join text.
Unsupported syntax
Section titled “Unsupported syntax”Logical operators such as AND (&&), OR (||) and NOT (!), function calls,
and other scripting syntax are not supported in schedule-operation expressions.
For more complex logic, use a Python script rather than entering code into an
expression field.
These rules apply to schedule-operation expressions, not to Python script code or fields that specifically ask for a regular expression.
